The Last Laugh...
I had a realization about the Green Monkey the other day. Imagine that you have 16 million dollars to spend on a horse, or anything. If you’re willing to spend that kind of money, while still spending other large sums of money, it’s probably not putting you in precarious financial position to do so.
My hunch bet, so to speak, is that the it doesn’t matter if the Green Monkey races or ever recoups any of that money, because the point was simply to get him, period… to win the bidding war. I got him, you didn’t. They couldn’t have possibly expected to make that back.
So we can laugh all we want about the owners taking a bath, but they can afford to spend 16 million dollars and not only never see a dime of it, but continue to spend money on his training and upkeep, and it’s not like he’s their only horse… in reality I think they have the last laugh.
