As it turns out...
I’m not the only one having a bad day. Rags to Riches just lost to Lear’s Princess by a half a length! I suppose it’s not totally surprising, but still.
So, team Pletcher and their illustrious money bags owners didn’t fare so well today with The Green Monkey, The Leopard and Rags to Riches.
Man, Kiaran McLaughlin is beaming as he’s walking Lear’s Princess to the winner’s circle… I would be too! He’s won 2 today and Eibar Coa has won 3. It’s nice to see the large group of owners in the winner’s circle from West Point Thoroughbreds as opposed to 2 - 3 guys who can spend 16 million without blinking or hoping to recoup it.
I just watched the replay… R2R ran fine and was well placed but it sort of looked like she was just galloping, whereas Lear’s Princess was really working hard (but not struggling, she looked good). It also looked like R2R was gawking at the grandstand and lost a little focus after she put away Tough Tiz’s Sis.
Now she can get focused for the BC with a race under her belt, and hopefully the speculation about the Classic will end… it would be different if she had made her other races, there’s always next year for the Classic!
